THE GIVING OF FLOWERS is associated with memorable occasions, and as an offering of courtship or seduction. Traditionally women have been the recipients and men the givers, but in recent times some males have also been receiving floral tributes.

Red roses, chrysanthemums, azalea, anthuriums, ginger lilies...
any red flowers, are symbolic of deep, passionate love. These blooms are suitable between lovers, or want to be lovers such as secret admirers, who no longer wish to remain secret.

The exception to the powerfully passionate red flower rule is if you think the person would prefer orchids or if they have a favourite colour, for example mauve, tangerine, or pink, then you choose with that in mind.

Whether you prefer a single stem or a dozen or more is a matter of your taste and what you think will strike your lover as more romantic. Fresh flowers are much more impactful, but if your lover has allergies, or you find silk flowers less expensive and easier to shop for, then by all means, make your gesture one that fits with your lifestyle.

Where an by whom the floral tributes are delivered also has meaning. Some women feel proud to have them sent to their workplace, so that they colleagues, can be impressed. Others prefer you to hand the flowers over personally on that special
occasion.

White flowers express platonic love and are appropriate between friends, colleagues, dating couples who are not having sex, and family, including children. Older ladies such as mum, grandma and auntie may like pink flowers, or a mixed bouquet.

Some gentlemen may prefer a plant or a collection of plants, rather than flowers.Please remember to send flowers or cards to loved ones who may be in hospital, convalescing home, or in a nursing home.

While Valentines Day and Mothers Day are strongly associated with those flower giving moments, it is also a good occasion to send an "I'm so sorry, please forgive me" single flower or a bunch. Include your phone number and sign your name and hope for a response. It is a non-confrontational way to find out if someone
wants to get back with you, or not.
